In the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Haut-Languedoc the surroundings of Mont Caroux bring interesting birds and great views.
Mont Caroux represents the eastern limit of the Espinouse mountains. There is a rich forestry area where you can have a chance to see krutihlav obecný, sedmihlásek švitořivý, budníček horský and brhlík lesní. There are also areas of heath which are home to ťuhýk obecný, luňák hnědý and sup bělohlavý. And look out for orel skalní. More than 10 pairs breed in the area. Although visible all year round, this large raptor preferably performs acrobatic courtship displays in January and February. Other interesting birds you can see in the area are orlík krátkoprstý, skalník zpěvný, skalník modrý, výreček malý, pěnice bělohrdlá králíček obecný and strnad viničný. In winter you have a chance to see zedníček skalní, pěvuška podhorní and pěnkavák sněžný in the area.
