Beautiful beech forest that is home to several rare mountain species, including tetřev hlušec, jeřábek lesní and sýc rousný.
The Risoux forest (4,400 hectares) is located on the French-Swiss border and its altitude varies between 1,250 m and 1,300 m. It is very rich in exceptional fauna and flora. The forest is probably one of the most beautiful beech forests in France. The harsh climate, the rugged terrain, the extent and diversity of natural environments make this site one with considerable biological value. The Risoux forest is home to several rare mountain birds, including tetřev hlušec and jeřábek lesní with fragile populations, but also Ořešník kropenatý, kulíšek nejmenší, sýc rousný, zvonohlík citronový, datlík tříprstý and křivka obecná.

Note: it is forbidden to enter the forest from December 15 to June 30, and this in particular to limit as much as possible the disturbance of tetřev hlušec in winter but also in the breeding period. There are many trails through the forest (on the map you see two circular loops), but always check if it is allowed to enter a trail. Important: when you explore the forest, always stay on the tracks.
