Description
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (kopřivka obecná, kachna divoká, čírka modrá, hvízdák eurasijský, čírka obecná and so on), husice liščí and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are husa velká and berneška bělolící. Rarer gooses like husa běločelá, husa krátkozobá, berneška velká, berneška rudokrká, berneška tmavá, husta tundrová and husa polní are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are vodouš rudonohý, kulík písečný, ústřičník velký, kulík zlatý, čejka chocholatá, and jespák bojovný. During migration vodouš tmavý, tenkozobec opačný, jespák obecný, jespák malý, jespák šedý, jespák rezavý, jespák křivozobý, koliha velká and koliha malá have been recorded.
