Description

Tatev is a small village located at the edge of a very high gorge carved into the rocks by the Vorotan River. This location provides an opportunity to observe numerous birds of prey that nest here and pass through during migration. In the orchards, agricultural fields, and pastures, you can also encounter many different species of birds. In spring, your checklist will include at least 40 species of birds – mountain, steppe, and forest birds.

Access

There are several ways to reach Tatev, but I would recommend traveling by your own or a rented car. It’s better to spend at least one night in Yeghegnadzor on your way from Yerevan, as the road to Tatev is very complicated, winding, dangerous, and the driver can get very tired. Press P on the map for directions to Tatev.

If you're traveling from Yerevan without your own car, there are three options: Taxi, minibus or flying. For minibus – you’ll need to check the current schedule and fare at the bus station. A flight from Zvartnots Airport (Yerevan) to the city of Kapan, and then a taxi from there.

Beware: Never plan a trip to Tatev in one day. Plan several days for the journey and at least two days to spend in the village.
