Description

An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly severni kovaček and vrbji kova ek, but also mlinarček and črnoglavka. More mature trees provide habitat for lesna sova. brglez and aleksander have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular vodomec and siva pastirica, and occasional povodni kos in winter. In its lower tidal section rdečenogi martinec is regular, and the semi-tame mlakaricas can attract other ducks, including duplinska kozarka, kreheljc, and more rarely dolgorepa raca and mandarinka. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; ledni slapnik, lumna and njorka have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of triprsti galebs moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
