Martin Down National Nature Reserve has extensive unimproved chalk downland with wildflower meadows and scrubland. Good for Escribano Triguero, Curruca Zarcerilla and other warblers, Cuervo Grande, Milano Real, Escribano Cerillo and Alondra Común. Also excellent for butterflies including Marsh Fritilalry, Dark Green Fritillary, Adonis Blue and Chalkhill Blue and various Orchids. Wide ranging views over the Hampshire/Wiltshire borders.

Accesso

Martin Down is located 15 km southwest of Salisbury. Parking either off the A354 Salisbury to Blandford Road (but a difficult exit onto a fast main road) or at the end of Sillens Lane in the village of Martin. Click on the P in the map for directions. The area can be accessed by bus between Salisbury and Blandford.

One can do a long circuit on foot between the two car parks covering most of the habitats in 3-4 hours. The circular route indicated on the map is about 7,5 km. No facilities except car park and can be quite exposed to sun and wind.
