Description

Ría de Foz is the estuary of the Masma River near the village of Foz. It is one of the big galician estuaries. In this place, the formation of an intertidal plain surrounded by marshes guaranties a powerful attraction for migratory birds. There are the large tracts of intertidal mud flats that feed a large number and variety of birds. It makes Ría de Foz a refuge in winter season. Especially during fall migration many species stop at this estuary. Among the birds you can see here are Eurasian Spoonbill, Bar-tailed Godwit, Black-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover, Whimbrel, Eurasian Curlew, Sandwich Tern, Little Tern, Common Ringed Plover, Zitting Cisticola, Common Kingfisher, Osprey and Mediterranean Gull.
