Description
With almost 16,000 hectares, and integrated into the Regional Park of the Upper Manzanares Basin, El Pardo is a vast natural area bordering Madrid. The Manzanares River crosses this nature reserve from north to south, creating a source of life, being dammed at the gates of Mingorrubio. One of the highlights is the Mirador de Valpalomero. Since 1987 it has been declared a Specially Protected Bird Area (ZEPA). Mount Pardo distinguishes up to 125 species of birds, including Spanish Eagle, Eurasian Black Vulture, Iberian Magpie, Rock Sparrow and Eagle Owl, as well many other interesting species. El Monte de El Pardo es el bosque mediterráneo más representativo de toda la región. El río Manzanares cruza este espacio natural de perfiles suaves de norte a sur, resultando fuente de vida, siendo represado a las puertas de Mingorrubio. El monte del Pardo se distinguen hasta 125 especies de aves, entre las que se encuentran el águila imperiel, el buitre negro y el búho real, así como urracas, palomas y otras especies.

Access
By car: To reach El Pardo you have to take the M-605 or M-612 roads. By bus: Bus lines 601 and 602 take you to El Pardo from Madrid. In El Pardo you can enjoy endless hiking trails. On the map you see just one example of a hike of about 15 km, partly along the river. But you can easy shorten the walk or choose other shorter trails. The river bank is flat, the Mediterranean forest area is not.

Espagnol: En coche: Para llegar a El Pardo hay que tomar las carreteras M-605 o M-612, que directamente conducen hasta el pueblo. En autobús: Las líneas de autobuses 601 y 602 llevan hasta El Pardo desde el municipio de Madrid. En el mapa puede ver solo un ejemplo de una caminata de unos 15 km, en parte a lo largo del río. Pero puede acortar fácilmente la caminata o elegir otros senderos más cortos. La ribera del río es plana, no así la zona de bosque mediterráneo.

Any day of the week is usually good for observation; On weekends and holidays due to the crowds the birds and animals in general are very scared and are not usually seen except for the most common species.
