Description

Marado (마라도) is a tiny, volcanic island surrounded by dramatic rocky coastline. The overall length of the island's coastline is 4.2 km. There is a walking track around the island offering a scenic view of the coast. Walking on foot around the island takes about one hour. Marado is visited by a lot of birds during the spring migration season. Over 250 species of birds have been recorded on this tiny island. It is a resting spot for the migrant birds after they winter in tropical Asia and Oceania, before they move further north. You will also have a good chance to see vagrant species in Korea.

Access

Marado Island is located 8 km off the south coast of Jeju Island. It takes 25~30 minutes to access by boat from Jeju Island. You can take a boat from either Unjin Harbor or Songaksan Harbor. Once you arrive at the terminal, you buy a ticket and board one of the small passenger boats that run back and forth throughout the day. You need to prepare your ID card to get on the boat. Because Marado is a small island you can make a circular walk within an hour.
