Feel the wind, listen to the diversity of sounds made by thousands of birds and enjoy the colours and vastness of this authentic landscape.
Between Petten and Camperduin, in the Harger- and Pettemerpolder, nature reserve De Putten is located. This area originates from the middle 19th century. It consists of old clay excavation areas, from which the clay was used to strengthen the adjacent dykes. De Putten contains brackish water and contains lots of nutrients. Therefore, the area is very popular for many species of bird, like gulls, terns and waders. This area can be observed best from the dyke. Species that can be seen here are Avocet , Sandwich Tern , Bar-tailed Godwit , Dunlin , Eurasian Spoonbill and Common Redshank.

The area is best reachable by car using the Hondsbosscheweg. There are two parkinglots (see map).
