The Perfstausee is a reservoir that was build to protect the Lahntal area against floodings in the early 90s. It is also used as recreational area.
Unfortunately the reservoir is built quite clean and has neither inviting shore or reed areas, nor mudflats or wet forest. The very south part of the lake is a protected area and offers a hide with a good view on the water surface. Also the whole lake is just next to a quite loud road.
But during winter or spring migration you can find rather rare birds here such as Goosander.
There is a car park right next to the lake. A footwalk leads in a loop around the lake, that is in good shape and can be tread by feet or wheelchair. The short path to the hide is quite muddy.
