A lake with a small harbor and beach along the Wadden Sea coast.
In Hooksiel in winter there are numerous ducks on the lake. There are many songbirds in the bushes. The sea buckthorn bushes in particular can be full of thrushes in late autumn. Eurasian Oystercatcher can be seen on the beach. Seagulls, terns and Ruddy Turnstone rest on the piers in the harbour. In summer, the area is not very attractive: boats sail on the lake, the beach is full of people, so hardly any bird finds a quiet spot. So best to visit outside the summer season.
There are plenty of parking spaces. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point. The circular walking route suggested on the map is about 9 km long.
