The island of Hiddensee is famous for its birdlife. With its lakes, meadows and forests it's one of the best places in Germany for birding.
Hiddensee is famous for its birdlife. Especially in autumn you can see thousands of different geese, ducks or birds of prey like White-tailed Eagle. Hiddensee is also famous for the amount of waders you can observe. For example Eurasian Curlew, but also many other species of waders. In the north of the island you have forests and dunes, in the middle and the south of the island you will find wetlands where you may see waders but also many of the ducks and geese. Also Hiddensee is an island which is car free, so you can only go by feet, with bike or by horse. Because of that there are no loud streets and you will find a big wilderness.
Because Hiddensee is an island you must go there by ferry from Rügen, you can drive from Schaprode, Stralsund or Zingst when you scroll down you will find a link for the ferry's. If you are on the island you can go there by feet or with bike or horse. If you are on the ferry you can start birding and see the first species like Arctic Tern, White-tailed Eagle or others.
Hiddensee is a big island so I can't recommend a one day stay there. Better is tot stay on Hiddensee for 3-14 days. Please stay on the tracks during your visit!
