Description
Réserve naturelle de la Forêt de Neuhof-Illkirch is a nature reserve of about 945 hectares, created to protect one of the last large remnants of the old Rhine forest. The forest has many tall, mature trees and clear forest streams. Most of the area is dense woodland. The forest echoes with woodpeckers like Great Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker and Black Woodpecker. Other forest birds that can be spotted include Eurasian Nuthatch, Short-toed Treecreeper, Common Chaffinch, and Tawny Owl.

Réserve naturelle de la Forêt de Neuhof-Illkirch is located south of Strasbourg. The reserve is open all year and can be entered from several points around Neuhof and Illkirch‑Graffenstaden. Press P on the map for directions to a parking lot. The circular walking route shown on the map is about 5 km, but it is easy to make the walk longer or shorter.
