Small lake with bird hide and the opportunity to observe waterfowl.
Steinfeldsee is a former gravel pit that has been transformed into a valuable habitat for migratory birds, including geese, ducks, and sometimes rare bird species. The lake is not open for human activities like swimming or fishing, as it is dedicated solely to wildlife preservation. The lake has an observation platform from where you have good views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Birds that have been observed include Ψαραετός, Φοινικόσιηνα, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Ψαλιδιάρης, Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια, (Βουβός) Κύκνος, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Βουκεφάλα and Μαύρος Πελαργός.
Steinfeldsee is located near the town of Hemmingen, south of the city of Hannover. The lake is accessible by car. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot. There is no a circular route around the lake, but the 800m path along the lake is accessible.
